• For the most up to date assistance for local food pantries, utility and rent assistance, legal assistance, clothing help, shelters, medical assistance etc. When calling on M-F, you will talk with a person from Elkhart Co. The resource enter can provide assistance in many languages and has information for over 400 agencies and 1200 programs in Elkhart Co. If after the hours above, you will still get assistance but not from a local person.

Energy Assistance Program- Apply for state assistance through locally administered REAL Services for your heating bills. Avoid disconnect of heat during the winter months. The program runs from November-March, until the funds fun out. To qualify for the program you must have a social security card for everyone over the age of one in the home. The lease/mortgage must have the name of the person applying for the assistance. There ae income guidelines. Contact Real Services at 574-534-2564. Taking calls at the beginning of November.

• Elkhart Township Trustee-106 N. 5^th St, Goshen (574)533-2066 Office hours Monday 9-4, Wednesday 9-12, Friday 9-4 Walk in for application. Takes 48-72 hours. Appointment is needed for a follow-up visit. Need Social Security Number, may help with food, rent, utility, disconnects up to $250. They will not help with utility deposits.

• Salvation Army-1013 N. Main St. Goshen. (574) 533-9584 Office hours Mon-Fri 9-11:45 and Mon, Tue, Thu and Friday. Call first for eligibility and to see what help is available. Can help with utilities when at “disconnect” status, once every 12 months. Can help with groceries once every 60 days-up to 4 times per year.

• Elkhart County Women’s shelter-provides a safe and secure environment. Assists victims of domestic violence.
• Family Empowerment-Assists low income families pursuing job training or further education.
• Family Enrichment Series: A 16 week series of classes for parents (single, divorced, separated, married) focuses on resolving conflict and co-parenting.
• Transitional Housing for the homeless: Provides services that address the issues leading to homelessness.
• GOAL:  (Getting over angry lives) Classes for young people teaching skills to help manage anger in constructive ways.
• Urban Renewal: A mentor based community services program for teens ages 14-18.
• Helping Hands. Assists with getting birth certificates and shelter for the homeless.

• St. Mark’s United Methodist Church 502 N. Main St. Goshen 574-533-1842. Gas/Food card for Kroger available on Tue and Thu from9-11am. You must call ahead. Priority given to members of church. Must have ID. Only one voucher will be given to each family every 6 months. Small clothing pantry available on Tue & Thu from 9-11am by appointment only.

• Serves breakfast at 9:30 and then begin giving out food vouchers at 10:30. They serve up to 30 people on a first come/first serve basis. Need a picture ID and recent mail with current address. Families can have 2 vouchers the first 6 months of the year and 2 vouchers the last 6 months of the year. The vouchers need to be a least a month apart.

Fees Full day $60 per week regardless of attendance, Half day $40 per week regardless of attendance. Helps with situations that interfere with the ability to manage families, including but not limited to : ill family members, stressful situations, housing crisis, truancy issues, on going transportation problems, difficulty managing children at home, organizational help etc. Provides Free in-home one on one services.

• Ryan’s Place Grief Support P.O. Box 73 Goshen 574-535-1000 or cell 574-202-1688 grief groups available for adults and children on every other Monday evenings from 6:30-8:15. Food is free to those participating in groups.

Medicine and Medical Resources

• Medicaid assistance-Maple City Health Care Center 574-534-3300 Call for an appointment. They will help complete paperwork with families. Families will need to follow-up when receiving paperwork in the mail. Medicaid will assign a doctor to the family.
• Goshen General Hospital-financial Advocate. They will assist with sign up for children who are 18 years and younger. They will also help with pregnant women assisting with signing up. Call for an appointment 574-535-2607 hours 8-4:30
